How much money do I need to show for a student visa?
Most countries ask you to prove you can pay for your living costs while you study. These are the official 2026 amounts for a single student, on top of tuition.

|---|---|---|
| Germany | €11,904 a year (€992 a month) | Usually paid into a blocked account. Unchanged in 2026. |
| United Kingdom | £1,171 a month outside London, £1,529 in London, for up to 9 months | From 30 November 2026: £1,203 and £1,570. Money must be held for 28 days. Plus any unpaid first-year tuition. |
| Canada | CAD 23,448 plus first-year tuition | For applications from 1 September 2026, outside Quebec. |
| Australia | AUD 29,710 for 12 months | Plus first-year tuition and travel. |
| Spain | €600 a month (€7,200 for 12 months) | 100% of IPREM. Showing more helps. |

Other countries
Schengen countries such as Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary also ask for proof of money, plus accommodation and health insurance. The amount depends on the country and how long you stay. Use the cost calculator to see living costs, then ask a counsellor for the exact visa amount.
