Why students choose Hungary
Hungary is a member of the EU and the Schengen area, with tuition and living costs that are moderate by European standards. Many programmes are taught entirely in English, and some accept students without an IELTS or TOEFL score. That varies by university, so check for the programme you want.
Hungary is particularly well known for medicine and dentistry, taught in English at universities in Budapest, Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs, and for veterinary medicine in Budapest.
Things to consider
- Courses may be in English, but everyday life is easier with some Hungarian. Most universities offer language support.
- International students can work part-time alongside their studies. The limits change from time to time, so ask your counsellor for the current rules.
- Diplomas are recognised across the EU, and most universities run a buddy system or student union to help international students settle in.
